Another Good Weigh-In

Just back from Dr. Loiselle's office, and little Bobby is a hearty 9 pounds, 3.2 ounces, a gain of one pound from two weeks ago (and two pounds from three weeks ago). He's a full 21.5 inches and, according to the good doc, "perfect."

Also, Bobby had his first shot and took it like a man.

A Couple of Firsts

A couple of firsts for the baby this weekend ...


Baby's first ride on the New York City subway system (A Train to 125th and then the C Train to 72nd, to be precise) ...





... and Baby's first trip to see Sally, the world-famous accountant. (His first word may well be "refund"!)

Update: Mommy points out Bobby won't be able to pull his weight tax-wise until next year. Daddy's Little Deduction!

Snow Baby!

It's All About Bjorn

No, Bjorn is not some fancy Nordic manny ... Bjorn is Baby Bjorn, the de rigeur baby-carrying system in Manhattan. Not only is it comfortable, not only is it easy to use -- it has magical baby-unconsciousness properties. The baby goes in, the awake goes away. As Daddy types this, Bobby is dangling from his chest fast asleep.

Nice Weigh-In

We weighed in today at 8 pounds, 3.2 ounces, a very healthy gain of 1 pound from a week ago. Dr. Loiselle says he's doing very well and is extremely handsome.

Top Things to Do on a Sleepless Night

It's 1:30 a.m., your baby is fussy, you have to be up for work in 3 hours and you know you're not going to sleep again. Some suggested time-wasters:

- Watch the cats chase a cockroach.
- Chase the cockroach yourself.
- Take a long shower before the neighbors use up the hot water.
- Blog.

Thoughts on Fatherhood

Let me add a few thoughts on fatherhood at this point, 10 days in to Bobby's life:

- There is no feeling comparable to having your child asleep in your arms.

- Similarly, there is no feeling of success that equals making your baby burp.

- Fathers of other male babies will ask you slyly about your diaper-changing experience. Of course, what they are asking is, "Has your son peed on you yet?" The answer is yes, yes he has thank you.

- The Rainforest Bouncer is God.
